DISCIPLINE | STRENGTH | TRADITION | HUMILITY | HONOR

Founded in 1979, Pacific Rim Martial Arts Academy is the oldest non-sport martial arts program in the Portland Metropolitan Area. Offering traditional training in five distinct, yet complementary martial arts, Pacific Rim offers both adult and kids classes, and has become an internationally recognized program featured in numerous newspaper, magazine, radio, and television features. At Pacific Rim, learning and personal development are the primary goals.

Hapkido

Hapkido

Employing a broad variety of integrated techniques, it is the most complete self-defense form. It is the leading non-sport martial art in Korea.
Aikido

Jujutsu

Jujutsu

Instrumental in the development of Judo, Sosuishiryu Jujutsu’s locks, throws, weapon usage, and other techniques have been developed over a span of nearly 350 years.
Judo

Judo

Primarily a throwing and grabbing art, it has been an Olympic sport since 1964. Students have the option to participate in tournaments; however, the training emphasizes the heritage and foundation Judo has provided to all martial arts.

This dojo is a gem in Tigard/Portland. They offer a few different martial arts and I go here solely for Judo.  I’m so glad I found Pac Rim. The instructors really do care about teaching clean and safe Judo. As somebody who's practiced and competed in Judo very intensely as a youth (I am a second degree black belt) and stepped away for a while, I'm especially grateful to learn/re-learn good foundation. I have a lot of fun too in class.  The facilities are amazing. You can definitely feel the springs on the mat too.  It's been about four-five months here and I'm already recommending friends here. What also makes this dojo great is the connections to excellent Japanese Judo players (amongst other martial arts) that come stay at the dojo and teach.

Cannot say enough good about this dojo.  I've trained with 6 different instructors and they are all fantastic.  Very humble and respectful and able to provide clear instruction on fundamental technique.  The dojo space is very clean and well organized - and spacious; the mats are perfect and easy to train on.  Great students too - no ego at this school.  I joined judo just before covid took off, then hapkido later on.  They immediately set up online classes during covid, and they provide a very helpful set of videos with your online account that correspond to the belt progression.  I always look forward to training here.

Both my sons (8 and 10 years old) are attending and it has been a very positive experience.  The teachers really show love for the art, and are very patient and encouraging to students.  The dojo is very well done, with exchange students coming in to teach.
