CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Beginning Hapkido

Designed for beginning students of all ages, this class focuses on developing a foundation of physical literacy while learning the basics of self-defense through the integrated art of Hapkido. Using a combination of drills, partner work, and solo exercises, the class is fun, but focused and builds each students’ proficiency in striking, falling, throwing, and grappling.

Intermediate Hapkido

This class combines the striking of TaeKwonDo, the joint locks of Aikido and Jujutsu, and the throwing and grappling of Judo. While Hapkido incorporates elements of striking, the focus of the art is to control an aggressor with arm bars and locks. Because of this approach, Hapkido is the preferred defense tactics of military and police professionals in Korea and one of the most practiced martial arts in the world. If you are interested in learning the most complete art and gain self-confidence and self-reliance, this class is for you.

Beginning Judo

Open to all ages, this class focuses on learning the fundamentals of judo, one of the most practiced martial arts and Olympic sports in the world. Students learn the keys to breaking balance, movement, gripping, and falling. For those early in their journey or just wanting more mat time to perfect their basics, this class is for you.

Junior Judo

In this class, our juniors (ages 6-13) learn the art of Judo in a fun, but focused format. We cover both the basic throwing and grappling techniques of Judo, as well as developing physical literacy through exercises, games and drills centered around improving speed, flexibility, agility and power. If you want your child to improve both physical fitness as well as discipline and respect while having fun, this class is for you.

Intermediate / Adult Judo

This class builds upon the basic techniques learning in the Beginning Judo class and covers the fundamentals of throwing, grappling, falling, arm locks and chokes. In addition to expanding the student’s repertoire of techniques, this class teaches the keys to building an integrated approach to attack and defense and focuses on judo as an art for personal development and physical fitness.

Open Mat

This class is for adults (or by invitation from Mr. Martyn) and allows students time to improve their technical proficiency, prepare for an upcoming test, or just get extra practice time on the mat. Each student takes responsibility for their own training and continuous improvement through experimentation, self-reflection and repetition.
